Stop By Our Booth at Craig County Fall Festival

Calling all Craig Countians… Preserve Craig wants to hear from you! We need your input to identify & prioritize our natural, historical, and cultural resources that are worthy of protection and promotion for years to come.

On Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9am – 5pm Preserve Craig will have a working draft of its 30” x 60’ ‘County-wide Treasures’ map on display with volunteers ready and eager to gather your thoughts and capture notable features on your land to be compiled & published in the future. The creation of this map is a collaborative effort of Preserve Craig & the Craig County Historical Society & the Roanoke Valley Alleghany Regional Commission (RVARC) that began 4 years ago.

More and more, we are hearing accolades from visitors to Craig about the wonderful hidden treasures that Craig has to offer. With that spark as our motivation, community volunteers of Preserve Craig want to hear from you. Please stop by our booth to learn more about this project and to join other landowners who have already provided information and ideas to our growing database. Examples of features already provided: Civil war era gravesites, creeks & wetlands, historic fishing & swimming holes, favorite hiking trails & horseback riding paths, revolutionary war era homesteads.

We plan to spend the next year or so capturing information on important natural, historic, & cultural features throughout the county to lay a foundation for future grant proposals for preservation and mapping projects as $ becomes available.
