Craig County Trails

A sampling of Craig County Trails:

HIKING TRAILS (hikers only)

The Keffer Oak hike is just a short walk from the parking area on Northside Road. It is a famous tree along the Appalachian trail.

Kelly Knob is found along the Appalachian trail and is accessed from Route 42 or Rocky Gap Road. The AT has white blazes so you will know where you are. A knob is always a climb and the easiest route is the 4-mile round trip from Rocky Gap.

If you want interesting details about Craig County hiking trails, you can purchase The Old Woodswoman’s Guide to Craig County Trails at the Emporium on Main Street in New Castle.

HORSEBACK RIDING TRAILS (Multi-use)

Ride out and back the main trail past the picnic pavilion and the gate, ride the Bald Mountain Forest Service road, or make the 8-mile loop up along Little Mountain’s Ridge and back down to the mine which is a large pit where iron ore was mined in the 1800’s.

There is good parking and a large turn-around for trailers. There are walking trails, a sand volleyball court, a picnic pavilion, and pit toilets.

BIKING TRAILS (Multi-use)

Price Mountain trail is found at the crest of state route 606/Caldwell Mountain Road, and goes north along the ridge for a few miles. It is well traveled and is a multi-use trail. A 5-mile more difficult loop can be made by using the Sulphur Ridge trail.

Biking trails can be found at Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing by appointment:
