Preserve Craig News
2025 saw a regrouping of Preserve Craig to move forward with new goals and leadership. Dr. Marjorie Lewter has taken up the reins to find new goals and energy for Preserve Craig. Our heartfelt thanks goes to Bill Wolf for his tireless fight for justice and our environment with regard to Mountain Valley Pipeline and for keeping Preserve Craig alive for the past 34 years. The current legal environment has made a challenging road ahead to fight corporate control of energy infrastructure but we will continue the fight.
Looming ahead on the horizon is the threat to our land air, and water by data centers, and other energy projects. The opening of federal lands to new uses including our Jefferson National Forest is something we need to keep tabs on. Individuals and Preserve Craig collectively can urge our local and state officials to be proactive to protect our way of life.
We had a successful and super-fun event in October with education and food topped off with a real square dance hoe-down at Marge’s barn. Ideas were gathered for some ways Preserve Craig can make a difference in the lives of local folks. Here are some possible plans:
- Work with Friends of Monroe to rebuild the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory
- Have a pollinator garden in New Castle at the post office or library.
- Have a Dark Skies program at the school to increase awareness in our youth
- Have an astronomy event for the school or community with an expert
- Work with the US Forest Service in saving the pavilion and trails at Fenwick Mines
- Continue to monitor MVP with Mountain Valley Watch and Appalachian Mountain Advocates
- Support Holler2holler with donations for local areas of need in times of climate disaster.
- Have field trips to foster networking and energy for Preserve Craig enthusiasts
Thank you to all who have donated time energy and funds to Preserve Craig in the past! If you have little money but lots of enthusiasm, we need you! If you have money to give, we will put it to good use! If you stay home a lot, you can still help by serving as an officer, or head up our communications!
Please refer to the Website for links to all these plans and find out how you can help! We need your help always! Www.preservecraig.org
